The Make In India campaign, which PM Modi started has picked
up a lot of steam lately. Many multi-national companies have started or
have committed to start manufacturing of electronics in India. Another one to start manufacturing of smartphones in India is Huawei.
Today they have announced that the company has partnered with the Chennai based manufacturing plant Flex to start producing smartphones in the country.
The process will start in the first week of October and the Chinese mobile maker will initially start with the manufacturing of just one model from its Honor series.
Mr. Jay Chen, CEO, Huawei India said, "We recently launched our world class GSC in Bengaluru and the start of manufacturing in India is an affirmation of our commitment to India and supports the Make in India campaign.
We are convinced about the growth potential and future of India and we'll keep looking for opportunities to increase our presence here".
Ravi Shankar Prasad, Minister, Information & Technology was also present at the occasion in Delhi, said, "I would like to congratulate Huawei on their commitment to pursue their 'Make in India' vision. The Government of India is pleased to see so much enthusiasm for our "Make in India" initiative.
We are working towards making India an electronic manufacturing hub. As India is set to become the second largest smartphone market, our government would like to invite even more businesses to come and manufacture in India".
The Flex plant will allocate a capacity of three million units for Huawei smartphones. The max capacity will be achieved by the end of 2017.
With this, Huawei will also be strengthening its after sales service network in India with over 200 service centers, including more than 30 exclusive ones.
On the other side, Huawei is also ready to expand its distribution system by partnering with more than 50,000 Indian retail outlets this year.
